Spirit of the Butterfly [#12] – Quarantined
Artist: Suzanne Sahakian
Size: 10.5" x 15"
Medium: Photo Collage
Suzanne Sahakian is an art photographer who started out to be a ballet dancer, practiced law for 26 years, and retired early to focus on her creative passions, including photography. She has a studio for showing and selling her work in the Steinfeld Warehouse Community Arts Center, located in downtown Tucson's historic Warehouse Arts District.
For Suzanne, photography is a way of capturing and presenting a certain essence of life, defining an energy, highlighting a juxtaposition of details that might otherwise go unnoticed. Her photos and photo collages explore the colorful and vibrant reflections of urban scenes, natural landscapes and botanic blooms. Through the digital process, she brings out colors and detail to highlight images, presenting little vignettes, points of view. She also researches her images and locations, which adds another dimension to her process and understanding. Her photos are optimistic and compelling, providing a calm against the backdrop of daily routine - a 'visual vacation' and a reminder of the inherent and poignant possibilities of everyday life. Many of her photos are mistaken for paintings.
Suzanne's photos have received honors and recognition awards, have appeared in juried art festivals, group and solo art exhibits in Tucson, Tubac and Chicago, and are hanging in businesses in Tucson and Chicago.
