This may appear to be realistic work, but that is only an appearance. Sometimes I imagine it possible that the colors I use trace a direct connection to emotions. I shun colors which are a cliché as much as I dislike folkloric interpretations of certain people. I have always been interested in the “outsider”. James Baldwin going to Paris. Gauguin fleeing to Tahiti. Film is very important to me, and poetry, the craft of what one does, the materials one uses, the tools. I am in constant dialogue with artists of the past. I would like to paint men as evocatively as Modigliani painted women. I am interested in applying artistic craft and poetry of that depth to contemporary themes.
