Botanical Dyes of Quebracho Red, Indigo and Black Walnut on watercolor paper
I'm returning to the roots of childhood with spontaneous mark making that speaks of the search for peace in the moment. Having worked with natural dyes beginning 40 years ago on wool, for tapestries, I am now letting a freedom unveil itself. Recognizing a creative urge to explore an activity that is without using the mind as direction, often I turn to simple mark making as a tool to begin a piece. By cooking dyes and adding thickeners or additives, testing the paint can override the mental decisions, and creative action begins without judgment or criticism. I sense community and openness together as my theme, multitude and oneness.
